چکیده

The beetle’s elytra have the characteristics of light weight and high energy absorption (EA). In this paper, based on internal structure beetle elytra, two bio-inspired honeycomb column thin-walled structures (BHTS) I II were fabricated by selective laser melting (SLM) technology in additive manufacturing (AM) order to understand possible influence strain rate effect (SRE) BHTS under low speed uniaxial compression loading. three different SREs (0.001 s−1, 0.01 s−1 0.1 s−1) EA BHTSs specimens during loading was discussed means out-of-plane tests verified with numerical simulations. experimental results show that SRE has a significant tests: can significantly increase initial peak crushing force (PCF) specific (SEA) all types specimens. average PCF/SEA is 12.70%/9.79% 17.63 %/11.60%, respectively, compared 0.001 s−1. These research methods reduce use materials improve utilization materials, which provide important assistance for design, manufacture modeling AM-based materials.

High strain-rate behavior of ice under uniaxial compression

In the present study, a modified split Hopkinson pressure bar (SHPB) is employed to investigate the dynamic response of ice under uniaxial compression in the range of strain rates from 60 to 1400 s 1 and at initial test temperatures of 10 and 30 C. The compressive strength of ice shows positive strain-rate sensitivity over the range of strain rates employed; a slight influence of ice microstruc...

Postbuckling Equilibrium Path of a Long Thin-Walled Cylindrical Shell (Single-Walled Carbon Nanotube) under Axial Compression Using Energy Method

In this paper, an elastic shell model is presented for postbuckling prediction of a long thinwalledcylindrical shell under axial compression. The Ritz method is applied to solve the governingequilibrium equation of a cylindrical shell model based on the von-Karman type nonlinear differentialequations. The postbuckling equilibrium path is obtained using the energy method for a long thin-walledcy...

Explicit Dynamics Finite Element Analysis of Energy Absorption Characteristics of Thin-walled Ultrasteel Columns

UltraSTEEL material has been reported to have higher yield and ultimate strengths than plain mild steel under quasi-static loads. This project aims to study the energy absorption characteristics of UltraSTEEL thin-walled structures when subjected to axial impact loads. The numerical modelling starts from duplicating the UltraSTEEL dimpling process and defining the resultant material properties ...

Buckling of Stiffened Thin-Walled Cylindrical Shells under Axial Compression with Symmetrical Imperfections

This study aimed to investigate the effects of stiffeners on buckling of thin cylindrical shells under uniform axial compression. To this end, more than 300 finite element models of stiffened cylindrical shells were prepared. The variables considered are shell thickness, number, dimension and the location of the vertical and horizontal stiffeners as well as circular symmetrical imperfections. R...

PTC Inspired Column Level Compression in Low Power CMOS Imagers

The overall power consumption of CMOS imagers is dominated by the communication layer. A number of compression techniques have been introduced in the processing layer to reduce the power consumption of the communication layer. These compression techniques use redundancy present in the spatial or temporal domain. This work presents an algorithm to compress the depth of the pixel in the digital d...
